Hardware-level Device Owner protection vs software-based filtering - which approach actually works?
| Security Feature | Torah Companion | Techloq |
|---|---|---|
| Protection Type | Device Owner (system-level) | Filter Software (app-level) |
| Factory Reset Bypass | Impossible (bricks device) | Removes protection |
| Safe Mode Bypass | Doesn't help | Can bypass filter |
| ADB/Developer Bypass | Completely disabled | Potential vulnerability |
| VPN Workaround | No browser to use VPN | VPN can bypass filters |
| Browser Status | Does not exist | Filtered (still present) |
| Requires Your Device | Dedicated device | Uses existing phone |
| Setup Complexity | Works out of box | Requires installation |
Filter apps work by monitoring and blocking content. But they run as regular apps - which means they're subject to the same limitations as any app. A tech-savvy teenager can find workarounds: safe mode, factory reset, VPN apps, or developer tools. Device Owner mode operates at a completely different level - it's not an app, it's the device's management system.
Filter software is for accountability. Device Owner is for restriction. If you trust the user and just want a safety net, filters work great. If you need to guarantee the device cannot access inappropriate content regardless of the user's technical skills or motivation, Device Owner is the only solution that truly works.
Torah Companion uses Device Owner - the only truly unbypassable security.
