Yes! Many families use both - TAG for communication needs and Torah Companion for dedicated learning. They serve different purposes and complement each other well.
No. Torah Companion is a dedicated learning device without phone capabilities. If you need calls and texts, you'll still need a separate kosher phone. Torah Companion replaces the need for a tablet or MP4 player.
TAG uses filter apps that run on top of the operating system. Torah Companion uses Device Owner mode, which is built into the system itself. Filter apps can be bypassed through factory reset, safe mode, or technical workarounds. Device Owner cannot be bypassed - factory reset actually bricks the device.
Torah Companion is often more acceptable to yeshivos because it has no browser at all, no communication features, and cannot be bypassed. We recommend checking with your yeshiva's hanhala, but most find Torah Companion easier to approve than filtered phones.
TAG has physical stores which is convenient for in-person help. Torah Companion offers phone support (718-971-4311) and email support. Both provide good service - it depends on whether you prefer in-person or remote support.
